Landslides - Overall Susceptibility

Natural Hazardsinsurancelogistics

The Landslides — Overall Susceptibility dataset is a global raster representing the
combined susceptibility to landslide occurrence from all triggering factors, including
seismic activity, intense rainfall, and other hydro-meteorological events. Also produced
by the World Bank / GFDRR Global Landslide Hazard Assessment, this layer extends the
earthquake-triggered landslide model by incorporating rainfall-induced triggers and
broader terrain and geological conditions, providing a comprehensive picture of landslide
hazard across the globe. It is particularly useful for multi-hazard risk assessments,
land use planning, and insurance portfolio screening in mountainous or tectonically
active regions.

Interpreting the data

pixel values represent a dimensionless susceptibility index,
classified from Low (< 1.1) to Extreme (> 4.1). Unlike the earthquake-triggered layer
which uses probability values, this index reflects relative susceptibility — higher values
indicate greater predisposition to landsliding from any cause. Extreme values are
concentrated in steep, geologically unstable terrain with high rainfall or seismicity,
such as parts of Southeast Asia, Central America, and the Hindu Kush–Himalayas.
